Footnotes of Outings: Eski Bar

the Bear, kB and tare went to Eski Bar in Holland Village to usher in 2006. They had several bottles of Heineken and some sausages and topshells. The cold in the freezer room was rather biting!

Shisha @ Kazbar

This evening X-men organised an outing to Kazbar at Church Street to try out their shisha.

If memory serves me well, the following people were there:

1. X-men
2. the bear
3. Baseline
4. tare
5. Churra
6. WWW
7. subarugal
8. Kuali Baba (Photos provided by KB :) )
9. laurence82
10. JLennon
11. kopiosatu

One of the hookahs

The non-smokers weren't entirely left out - everyone got to enjoy Hoegaarden and Stella Artois on tap, tabouli salad and other West Asian/North African food, and this:

A Belly Dancer!

No soapy projectiles were launched. This must have been laurence's first outing - but nobody expected to look as innocent as he appeared! Someone mentioned that he looked like a teletubby...which later evolved to evil telebanana and stuck.

This is the earliest post I can find on our trip to MM's. I didn't go this time and I think it was mainly a guy outing. This was a St Patrick's Day celebration thingy. We don't have a St Pat's holiday here in Singapore but it is a good excuse to go Guiness guzzling *lol*

An explaination on what exactly is St Pat's by snNeD:

The person who was to become St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, was born in Wales about AD 385. His given name was Maewyn, and he almost didn't get the job of bishop of Ireland because he lacked the required scholarship.

Far from being a saint, until he was 16, he considered himself a pagan. At that age, he was sold into slavery by a group of Irish marauders that raided his village. During his captivity, he became closer to God.

He escaped from slavery after six years and went to Gaul where he studied in the monastery under St. Germain, bishop of Auxerre for a period of twelve years. During his training he became aware that his calling was to convert the pagans to Christianity.

His wishes were to return to Ireland, to convert the native pagans to Christianity. But his superiors instead appointed St. Palladius. But two years later, Palladius transferred to Scotland. Patrick, having adopted that Christian name earlier, was then appointed as second bishop to Ireland.

Patrick was quite successful at winning converts. And this fact upset the Celtic Druids. Patrick was arrested several times, but escaped each time. He traveled throughout Ireland, establishing monasteries across the country. He also set up schools and churches which would aid him in his conversion of the Irish country to Christianity.

His mission in Ireland lasted for thirty years. After that time, Patrick retired to County Down. He died on March 17 in AD 461. That day has been commemorated as St. Patrick's Day ever since.

Much Irish folklore surrounds St. Patrick's Day. Not much of it is actually substantiated.

Some of this lore includes the belief that Patrick raised people from the dead. He also is said to have given a sermon from a hilltop that drove all the snakes from Ireland. Of course, no snakes were ever native to Ireland, and some people think this is a metaphor for the conversion of the pagans. Though originally a Catholic holy day, St. Patrick's Day has evolved into more of a secular holiday.

One traditional icon of the day is the shamrock. And this stems from a more bona fide Irish tale that tells how Patrick used the three-leafed shamrock to explain the Trinity. He used it in his sermons to represent how the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit could all exist as separate elements of the same entity. His followers adopted the custom of wearing a shamrock on his feast day.

I think the Guinness Thirsty Peeps that night were:
- the Bear
- snNeD
- Rhonda
- Kuali Baba
- InnoHippo
- tare
- Estee
- neuros

Anyway, We have been to MM many many times :) And yes we will still be going there in the future!!

As Bear always says~
Guinness in a can is disgusting
Guinness in a bottle is passable
Guinness on tap... is liquid velvet

A Zoo Outing.... What next *lol*

Ok, I'm very very sure that in-between there are various other outings but they are just not documented!!! There goes our precious precious 'history' and memories!!!

This was an outing to the Zoo and to eat Ben & Jerry's ice-cream! If my memory does not fail me, it all started when we were talking about Ben & Jerry's and what great ice-creams they make and it would be nice if there was a dip shop where we can just buy scoops of ice-cream to savour the different flavours, and someone mentioned that the zoo has it and we had an outing

(I had to miss this one though :'( due to work )

According to the archives, 21 people turned out for this outing!!!!

Just a guess, I think the members who turned up that day were:
- EricDraven
- Rhonda
- the Bear
- carebear
- Estee
- monkeybusiness
- Kuali Baba
- fennymouse
- True_Xerion
- the_Don
- Faye Valentine
- HeckKER
- Kismet
- InnoHippo
- RSP
- neuros
- SwtHippy
- Mercutioz
- shitake

.....listed out 19 people.... anyone knows who were the remaining 2?

Best thing is we have pictures for this outing!! (Pictures & Commentaries by the Bear)

A meerkat on lookout duty while its family digs and forages.. cute isn't he?

This masked bandit stole my heart with his cuteness

This was originally organised at the Space Cowboys forum but most of us (Club 30) were there. Faye V was back in S'pore for her holidays.

Remarkable happenings included:
The odd separation of drinkers and non-drinkers at the table even before the orders started; Bear, tare and snneD wanted Guinness draught, but ordered canned Guinness instead when they were told the proceeds from the latter would go towards aid for the Indian Ocean tsunami victims.

They each received a ribbon for ordering the inferior version; Faye was told to look for a partner born in 1973 (Year of the Rat in Chinese zodiac);
Lots of servings of Irish stew, country pie and garlic bread were consumed; Tare and Bear wanted to go to Big Ben's for their pies but had no idea where Opera Estate was.
